5 Tool baseball academy

program

5 Tool is excited to offer a new off season baseball program to athletes who are interested in developing their baseball skills throughout the winter months.  Our program will run from November until the end of April  Individual skill work as well as team skill and strategy will be the focus throughout the winter training sessions. Such skills will include throwing (pitching), hitting, infield & outfield work, as well as team defensive work.  Our main focus is to provide a fun, yet structured and disciplined program not only to develop better players, but to aid in developing better people.  We will strive to prepare each of our athletes for their upcoming season with their respective teams, and aid our athletes in their pursuit of post secondary options.

Our academy will be an after school program that will give players from all over the Greater Edmonton area an opportuntiy to attend the school of their choice and train out of 5 Tool Fieldhouse.  5 Tool Fieldhouse is a multi purpose facility that has about 5,000 sq/ft of enclosed turf, 4 hitting tunnels, and is equipped with machines and mounds.  There is also a state of the art gym facility for those athletes looking to enhance their strength and athleticism. Training options will be available to fit the needs of each individual player.

CoachesHeading 2

The 5 Tool Baseball Academy will be lead by former Major League and Canadian National Team Member Mike Johnson.  Mike has 17 years of professional playing experience, as well as close to 10 years of experience of coaching and work within academy environments.  Sean Erikson will also be involved as a lead instructor.  Sean works very well with players and has excelled throughout his coaching career.  He has vast experience working with youth players and bringing out the best within them.  LaRon Smith from the Minnesota Twins brings his catching and hitting credentials to the academy.  Passing down what he has accumulated throughout his time working with his own coaches in the Twins Organization.  A full bio can be found under the Trainers tab.

It is important to us at 5 Tool Academy that our athletes receive the attention they need.  Having a good coach to player ratio is crucial for this.  As registration increases coaches will be added to ensure the solid environment for learning is maintained.  All of our coaches are and will be dedicated to our athletes. We will have the common goal of bringing out the best in each of our players individually, and working towards helping them achieve their individual goals.

Structure

5 Tool Baseball Academy believes in offering options to its athletes and families.  There will be multiple options available in regards to training days, strength & conditioning, and game schedule.  The value of having options is that we intend on doing our best to cater to the needs of as many families economically and within the structure of our program as possible.

Indoor training, which will start the first week in November will consist of a 3 day and 5 day option.  The 3 day option will run weekly on Tuesday & Friday evenings and Sunday mornings.  The 5 day option will run weekly on Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday evenings, and Saturday & Sunday mornings.  Time slots will run for an hour and a half.  Indoor Training will run from early November through the end of April.  There will be a Christmas Break, and an optional training schedule towards the end of January to allow kids to focus on 1st semester exams.  Time slots will be determined based on the number of registrants.  With that being said, we will look to start our weekday training at 4:30pm, and our weekend training sessions at 9:00am.  Times are subject to change as athletes register, but the schedule will be finalized by mid October.  We will do our best to accommodate times for families, but will also group players in their working groups based on age to the best of our ability, and no more than 20-25 athletes in each slot.

Strength & Conditioning will be an additional option for players and families.  Training sessions will be run through the 5 Tool Gym and Absolute Human Performance; headed by Taylor Burns.  Taylor has a major passion and ability to contect with his athletes and get the best out of them.  Sessions will run Tuesaday and Friday (7:30-8:30pm) and Sundays (Noon-1:00pm).

There will be an option for a Spring Baseball Game Schedule.  That schedule will be based on the interest of families and athletes, but it will not be included in your initial indoor training fee.  It will be structured as a pay as you play system.  This gives families another option on monies they wish to pay for their child's development.  A parents and players meeting will be held after the Christmas Break to determine the interest in not only games but the extent of travel families are interest in based on where games are scheduled.  Do be aware that in order to play games will require a minimum number of participants within age groups to attend tournaments, and exhibition weekends.  Players who do not wish to participate in Spring Games will continue their regularly scheduled practices at 5 Tool with coaches that do not travel.
